Has any heard about this house+pets product: 101 FREE Cooking Tips? I actually have used it and found it to be excellent.
They like being inside, but they do HOWL and bark quite abit!
Because beagles are scent hounds, they can be roamers, an escape-proof fenced yard is a must have with a beagle. Fences should be high enough (4 feet or higher) to prevent climbing and secured at the base to prevent digging out. Gates should have good latches and be child-proof, preferably locked. However, not all beagles are climbers or diggers. This usually happens if they are just left outside without any kind of attention from the family or other dogs. Beagles need companionship and daily exercise. Prone to barking and howling when bored and with there active nature, Beagles do not make good apartment dogs
Point Number One about Beagles: They have major, serious attitude. Stubborn with a capital S. And T. And U, and…. you get the idea.
Point Number Two about Beagles: Yes, they are hard to housetrain
Truth Number Three about Beagles: Unlike other dogs, a Beagle’s motivation in life is not you. A Beagle does not live to obey your every command. A Beagle’s life is about him, his stomach, his nose, his butt, his comfort when he sleeps. Him
Truth Number Three about Beagles: Unlike other dogs, a Beagle’s motivation in life is not you. A Beagle does not live to obey your every command. A Beagle’s life is about him, his stomach, his nose, his butt, his comfort when he sleeps. Him. Don’t get me wrong, he LOVES you. Adores you. Has to sit right up against you on the couch. Follows you from room to room. Howls when you’re gone, wags his tail so ferociously when you come home it could knock you over. Plays with your kids and wouldn’t hurt them for the world. An awesome companion.
But his aim in life is not to please and obey you, like many dogs. He will not fetch unless he wants to. He will not come when called unless he feels like it. And if something out there smells interesting, or those dogs over there look like they’re having fun, that definitely rules out “feeling like it”. And know this: if those dogs over there are on the other side of a four lane highway, it doesn’t matter – he’ll haul *** across it to get to them whether there are cars coming or not. As a result, beagles are *not* off leash dogs. Ever
If you want a Beagle PLEASE ADOPT!
My major concerns would be:
Unstable temperaments. Beagles are a dime a dozen, and most of them are bred and offered for sale by people who don’t have the slightest idea of how to breed good-tempered dogs. Obedience instructors and behavioral consultants see LOTS of Beagles with neurotic behaviors, including biting, moodiness, mindless noise, and general nastiness. I have NEVER seen a nasty beagle! I’m sure they exsist
Stubbornness. Beagles are not Golden Retrievers. They are independent thinkers who don’t particularly care about pleasing you. Most Beagles are very stubborn and can be manipulative. You must show them, through absolute consistency, that you mean what you say.
Defensive reactions. I don’t know why so many Beagles growl or snap when you correct them. They seem to have a heightened sense of “Hey, no fair!” As an obedience instructor, I’m always extra careful when putting my hands on a Beagle for a correction.
Providing enough exercise. Beagles don’t need to run for miles, but they do need more exercise than the typical slow walk around the block that many owners give them. Beagles who don’t get enough exercise become obese, which puts stress on their bones and joints and causes more health problems. Beagles MUST have regular opportunities to stretch their legs and vent their energy, if you want them to remain healthy and fit. WRONG, THEY NEED MILES OF EXERCISE-Beagles are a scent hound which means he follows his nose. So they needs to be kept on lead whilst out walking or else he will run away. They are very active so need on lead walks of at least 4kms daily. Beagles love to dig and explore and can also climb so they need very high secure fences to prevent escape. For this reason they need ongoing training, daily runs on lead and tolerant owners!
Beagles cannot be trusted off-leash. They will take off — oblivious to your frantic shouts — after anything that emits an odor or runs.
Housebreaking. Beagles tend to resist being told what to do, and housebreaking is no exception. Expect four to six months of consistent crate training.CORRECT
Noise. Beagles should never be left outside in your yard, unsupervised. The mournful baying and howling will have your neighbors calling the cops to report the nuisance — or quietly letting your Beagle out of his yard so he’ll wander away.CORRECT
Shedding and houndy odor. For such a shorthaired dog, Beagles shed much more than you might think. Their short coarse hairs come off on your hands and stick tenaciously to your clothing, upholstery, and carpeting. Also note that Beagles have a distinctive “doggy” odor to their skin and coat that some people find offensive.CORRECT
Chronic health problems. Because of overbreeding and poor breeding practices, Beagles suffer more than their share of joint problems, ear infections, and skin disorders.
Saying it the way you did does come across very strong.
