Can A Pet Bird Pass Diseases To People?

I have a new pet bird. It’s a Green Cheek Conure.
I know there are many diseases it can pass from bird to bird. But are there any diseases it can pass to me? If so what are they?
I haven’t had it checked at the Avian Vet yet. I heard its $129 to run a culture test to identify any diseases it may have.

All birds can pass diseases, some diseases have cost the birds their lives or have them put down. Diseases like bird flu or psittacosis have also cost the owners their lives. Psittacosis can be detected by vets ONLY by collecting samples with a swab around the nostrils, vent, mouth, and other various parts of the body. Thankfully, my two budgies were tested and neither had psittacosis. I don’t know much about bird flu, except it can harm you if you have certain allergies.
If you kiss your bird often (like me!!!!!!) or breath and/or swallow a feather, a disease may be transmitted and painful injections may be necessary. Running a culture test is highly recommended for any breed of bird to keep you, your family, and most importantly your bird safe and healthy.
A common symptom of a transmitted disease is pnuemonia, sneezing, and allergic reactions.
    Hope this helps!
