Advertising That Will Work When You Start a Pet Sitting Business
I have been a pet sitter for nearly 20 years. During that time, I have used many different forms of advertising for different reasons. In my opinion, the best form of advertising for your pet sitting business startup is useful advertising.
One of my favorites are the high quality magnetic business cards – I don’t mean the type where you stick a printed business card to cheap magnet stock which looks bad right after you make them and absolutely horrid a few weeks later on someone’s refrigerator. So of course it goes in the trash and your dog walking business is immediately out of sight and mind. Get online and shop! You can buy really decent all-vinyl magnetic cards that will stay shiny and new for years for about 23 cents each. Know anyplace else you can buy years of in-your-face customer advertising for your pet sitting business at 23¢ a pop? Me neither! And they can use your business cards to hang up kid’s drawings on the fridge.
My all time favorites are laminated place mats for food dishes and water bowls. With my pet sitting business startup, I used to have 11 X 17 inch paper place mats printed; they were very cute with a dog or cat in the sitting position with crown, a cape and a caption that said “My Pet sitter Treated Me Royally while You Were Away.” Right below this was the logo and phone number of my pet sitting business. Customers loved these and my pet sitting startup got more business.
Unfortunately, the mats were paper, so they got messy pretty quickly and then thrown away (again, out of sight, out of mind). I decided to look into having them laminated, which of course would extend their lifespan for years and keep my pet sitting business name in front of customers every time they gave their pet’s food or water. Unfortunately the cost was prohibitive to have someone else do this and when I decided to start a pet sitting business, I certainly wasn’t rolling in the dough (18 years ago it was 1.89 each – today, it’s relatively cheap to buy a 50 pack of self-laminating sheets at any office supply store).
Never let a great idea go away without a complete investigation. I went looking for a laminating machine and supplies. After some searching I bought a machine that would accommodate 11 X 17 for 169.00 and I still use the same machine today. Supplies are readily available online at good prices, and this is a dead easy item to make. My only other suggestion is to place two of them back to back and laminate them as one. That way, no matter which side is used, the customer will see your dog walking business and the mat has a quality thicker feel to it.
You will not believe how these simple ideas will help boost your pet sitting business; useful advertising can be extremely low cost yet provide your pet sitting startup with tremendous long-term benefits.

A Dog Insurance is the Best Gift for your Pet
Imagine coming home after a hectic day at work and being greeted by wagging tail, sloppy licks and enthusiastic yelps. Yes, having a four legged friend at home can really make all the difference to your world. No matter how tired you may be feeling, a welcoming bark can really lift your sagging spirit like nothing else can. A dog is indeed man’s best friend and the sense of loyalty and undisguised love that it displays is sure to drive away any doubt that you may have felt about keeping a dog as a pet. However, unlike a kid that will grow up sooner or later, a dog will always remain that baby which is forever dependent on you for its very existence. It will eat when you give it food, go out for a walk when you decide to take it, be pampered when you feel like it or perhaps be whacked when you are in an irritable mood.
Considering all these facts, it goes without saying that all pet owners would indeed give their right arm for their pet’s welfare. However, how many of us have actually considered getting dog insurance for our beloved companions? Just like we would think about insuring our lives or our precious assets like property, it is only natural that our precious pet should also have a dog insurance. Contrary to popular belief, dog insurance is not just insuring the life of a pet, but also the very well being of your devoted pet. A reputed company offering dog insurance will definitely offer a huge variety of plans that should incorporate your pets every need. Dog insurance from a reliable company should cover not only expensive medical treatment but also the regular check ups at the veterinary clinic.
Dog insurance can cover any kind of expense related to your pet, including cost of regular vaccinations and medication. Veterinary care can be an expensive process and a lack of funds should not come in the way of owners providing the best care for their pets. Also, as pet owners we know that medical science has made much improvement in the field of veterinary medicine and many diseases which were earlier believed to be incurable, now can easily be treated with the right medication and treatment. However, some of these treatments are really expensive and can place the owner in a financial crunch if no funds are kept aside for such contingencies. Dog insurance can indeed be a boon in circumstances such as these, where the very life of the pet depends on the expensive treatment and medication.
Dog insurance from a reputed company can also provide for some unusual situations wherein you may have to bear an expense on behalf of a pet. An example would be a scenario where your pet is lost and you need to bring out an advertisement announcing your pet’s details and perhaps a reward for its return. The pet insurance company can also be liable to pay for such expenses if the plan that you have chosen, covers such circumstances. Many pet insurance companies offering dog insurance, cat insurance and other pet insurance also have their online websites, wherein as an owner, you can simply fill up a form and get a free quote for the various plans.
Pet Lovers Send Greeting Cards
It could be said that consumerism has gone too far when you start mailing out birthday cards to your sister-in-lawâs dog or a message of sympathy to a friend who has just lost a pet, but itâs more lasting and thoughtful than a quick eCard thatâs looked at once and deleted. Itâs the thought that counts, and if thereâs a Christmas card on the tree addressed to the family dog itâs really for the kids and the people who like to include everybody in the good time. Greeting cards are fun for the sender, even though the pet canât appreciate the artwork and clever messages that the humans enjoy on their behalf.
It makes quite an impression that someone went out of their way to pay homage to your pet by shopping for a novelty item like a congratulatory card for acquiring a new puppy or other family companion from the pet store. Spending a lot of time with animals has been proven to improve a personâs health and longevity; thereâs something about caring for another that makes people feel happy and fulfilled. Domestic animals are helpless loving creatures with a childlike innocence and so they provide a relief from the complex and often confusing day-to-day world of human existence.
Playful pets like dogs and cats are the most popular since itâs hard to interact with fish, birds, or hamsters with their short attention spans. Retail stores charge upwards of two thousand dollars for a quality family dog and people are eager and willing to pay once a connection is made at the store. The new owners will license it, feed it, take it for walks clean up after it, and bring it in for medical care. The pet becomes an investment in time, labor, money, and emotion. The pet truly is a family member and once adopted and cared for, the cat or dog is showered with love and attention. Itâs been said that some people treat their pets better than humans. Every once a while a newspaper story will tell of an eccentric rich person leaving everything to the cat, which leaves relatives contesting the will and questioning the sanity of the deceased.
The pet sympathy card makes a lot of sense; very often your friend or relative and the children involved will be extremely distraught over the loss of a beloved pet. Thatâs when the card really is for the human ownerâs solace and the message shows that you care and the condolences are truly genuine. People mourn for weeks and having that card nearby assures them that others care about the loss.
Reinforcing friendships and family ties is the role of the greeting card. If you havenât seen someone in a while and you get a card celebrating the adoption of a new pet, it shows that the word has gotten around about the event. This makes the individual feel like others are thinking about him or her, and thereâs a reason to phone and thank them for being so thoughtful.
Even people who are sociable and popular can feel loneliness and isolation in their private moments; this is where a pet can be such a great comfort. The cat doesnât have to sort through complicated emotions and the effects of the cruel outside world. A warm lap is all they ask and the calm purring relaxes the owner and makes the surroundings much more pleasant.
A digital eCard defeats the purpose of the message. Itâs well-known that they can be obtained online for free, so the time and money gesture is missing and the card appears to be more of an afterthought than a genuine emotional effort. The physical card arrives in the mail; it has an envelope and stamp showing that it was important enough to be hand-delivered to your home. It comes as a surprise as you open it and it can be the highlight of the day as you run to the phone to thank the giver.
Like all novelty items, you can order pet greeting cards from websites at low cost compared to cards found in retail stores. Christmas is a time when itâs difficult to come up with new gift ideas, so itâs a good idea to stock up on pet cards for all the pet owners on your gift list. Mixed box sets are available so that you can have cards for all occasions for the pet lovers in your life. After all, the gift is in the giving.

Pet Insurance: Know What Different Policies Mean and Read Tips on How to Choose a Cheap Policy
Every time the pet owners have the same question: Do I really need to buy insurance for my pet. Consider this: Vet’s fees in the recent times have risen so much; you may as well pay your mortgage. Fixing a cat’s broken leg, for example, can cost £825. Surgery for a dog that has eaten something dangerous can cost £1,500.Let’s not forget the impact all this will have on you and your family.(Kid’s especially are attached to the pet and can’t bear to see their dog limping!)Its not just the injuries which are covered by pet insurance but nowadays all sorts of weird and wonderful eventualities are taken care by pet insurance. For e.g. if your cat is stolen, some providers will pay out the cost of advertising and a reward, or even cover the cost of your holiday if you can’t go because your pet’s ill. It is up to you to choose which type of covers suit your circumstances and then buy.You may try this reasoning that there is no need to buy pet insurance and it’s better to put some money aside for any kind of potential pet emergency However, there are two main dangers to consider here: first, you’ll be stuck if an expensive problem arises before you’ve built much cash up, and second, your pet won’t be covered for public liability, so if it runs into the road and causes an accident, and the drivers sue, you’ll be liable for the cost .While the focus of this article is cats and dogs, we also have riders who may be interested in buying insurance for their horses. Horse insurance policies are different than cats and dogs so check before buying. Being the owner of a horse you should be aware that in the sad case of a death of your horse, its disposal can be expensive. Also having a cover which pays towards the cost of repair or replacement of lost or damaged saddlery and tack can be a good thing. You may compare various horse insurances at website mentioned below. In all cases make sure you check the excess to be paid by the policyholder (you). Now let’s talk about tips on how to choose pet insuranceIt can be a daunting task to choose the right insurance policy given the number of companies out there, but if you do it in a step wise manner it should be a breeze.1.Start by comparing the price.2.Consider the policy excess3.Are you getting lifelong cover?4.Think about other benefits5.Read the small printCOMPARE THE PRICEObviously, the cost of pet insurance is an important consideration. But different insurers have different ways of setting the price, so always get a quote for your specific circumstances to compare between insurers.CONSIDER THE EXCESSThere are a number of ways some providers save themselves money when it comes to paying out claims. One of these is by including a high excess on their policies. The excess is the amount that you have to pay each time you have to claim for a certain condition, so choosing a cheaper product with a higher excess could actually end up costing you money.ARE YOU GETTING LIFELONG COVERYou should check carefully what you are being offered by pet insurers and understand clearly what they mean by “lifelong cover”. Understanding lifelong cover can be complicated, but here are a few simple guidelines on the types of cover generally available…Time capped coverSome plans (often at the cheaper end of the spectrum) will only cover a condition for the first year you claim.E.g :If your pet developed arthritis, you might be able to claim up to £2500 for the first year’s treatment, but no more. You would then have to cover the cost of treatment every year yourself, for the rest of your pet’s life.Financially capped coverSome insurers call their financially capped cover ‘lifelong cover’. In this case, an insurer will pay out each year, but only up to a fixed total amount for each condition. After that, they will stop paying.E.g :If your pet developed diabetes and you had a policy that was financially capped at £3,000, you may need to claim £2,000 in the first year. By year two, the amount you can claim for treatment of the diabetes is now just £1,000. After this, you would have to pay for the treatment for the rest of your pet’s life.Lifelong coverThe best pet insurance is cover that pays for treatment up to a certain amount, every year, for as long as your pet needs treatment.E.g :If your pet were to develop epilepsy and your policy covers up to £3,000 every year, you could claim for treatment up to this limit each year for the rest of your pet’s life.Remember to compare these policies with your personal needs and circumstances.ADDITIONAL COVER TYPESAlthough veterinary fee cover is the key element of pet insurance, most insurers offer a range of additional benefits. These can include cover for:” The cost of advertising and reward to recover your pet should it go missing;” The cost of looking after your pet if you have to stay in hospital;” The purchase price of your pet if it is lost or passes away;” The cost of your pet causing damage for which you are legally liable.” There are many more benefits available aside from these, so read through the full list of benefits to make sure the cover you have is right for you.Have a go through these covers and think which is applicable to your circumstance or future. If are not the travelling types and have no intention of travelling outside the country with your pet there is hardly any point buying a pet travel cover , is it?READ THE SMALL PRINTIt’s annoying having to read the tiny details about a policy. But all insurance plans have terms and conditions to make clear what is covered and what is not.Once you’ve decided which cover suits you, price comparison site petsinsurancecompare has a pet insurance comparison service detailing different cover levels for cats ,dogs and horses. Unfortunately this only covers a limited number of providers but it’s still a good start as it produces a cheap benchmark price.
How To Make Your New Home Perfect For Your Pet
After the hectic chaos of moving to a new home, it is becomes time for you, your family, and your pet to adjust. For dogs, moving can be particularly stressful because they do not understand what has happened to the family. Their world has been turned upside-down, and now they are living in a place that looks, smells and feels foreign and unfamiliar to their senses.
Because adjusting can sometimes be a hard thing for your pet to do, here are a few tips that may help the transition process be a little easier for Fido.
First, once you move into your new home, you will want to make sure you get your dog new tags. Sometimes pets can become worried and run away or they may become curious about their new surroundings and want to explore. Whatever the reason, getting your pup new tags is a precaution that you will not regret doing.
Next, make sure your pet has their toys, bones, doggie bed and blanket in an easily accessible spot. These are familiar items that are precious to your pet, and having them around will help give your dog a sense of security and belonging.
Make an effort to familiarize your pet with your new home and neighborhood. Let Fido roam freely around the house and explore the family’s new territory. Take your dog on walks around the neighborhood regularly so they can become familiar with the area and learn that this is their new home and neighborhood.
One of the best things you can do for your dog after moving into a new home is to pay them attention and assure them often that everything is all right. Spending time with your pet and taking the time to play with them shows them that you care and that they can have fun in their new home, though it is unfamiliar and frightening.
Unpacking all the boxes can take time, but the sooner you get it done, the sooner life can return to normal. This will also help your pet adjust to being in their new home when all of the furniture and common household items are settled into their new place. Once their bed and food and water dishes are placed in their permanent new spots, a small bit of your doggie’s normalcy will return.
Also encourage your kids to sit on the couch next to Fido and watch TV with them, take him on walks, and play with him. When interacting with the kids, your dog will imitate the confidence and security that emanates from your children as they play with the family pup.
Moving can be a hectic and stressful time for the whole family. Make sure that you don’t forget your dog in the full swing up settling down and getting family life back to normal. Pay attention to your dog and set them at ease. If your dog is upset and worried because of the move and new surroundings, it can rub off on the family as well. By unpacking as quickly as possible and setting your dog at ease, you will be able to settle in quickly and enjoy your home as a family.
Dogs For Children – 5 Tips On Choosing Your Kids’ Best Mate!
We present some practical and expert tips on choosing a dog for your children and ensuring a happy home is possible with happy children and their chosen pet; we hope these help you make the right decision about your dog and your children’s healthfulness, too!
Take a look:
• Apart from the fun and love factors of owning a dog, many parents consider keeping a dog for the added security a dog can provide for the kids, especially when playing outdoors, being home alone or when a parent is not around for supervising the activities as dogs make great protectors!
• Of course, the companionship provided by a lovable four-legged furry friend that a dog can be is not to be ignored either, but choosing the right kind of canine pet is very important to ensuring both good dog health as well as children’s health. So, learn as much as you can about the natural temperament of the dog you like before brining one that is only tame-looking, but not necessarily mild-natured enough to be kept along side kids.
• A puppy is a good choice for a household with children as they can both grow together and get into scrapes and make lasting memories of a happy, natural and innocent childhood the likes of which is forgotten today in the mad rush for materialistic pleasures or even modern distractions like TV, electronic games etc. as having a dog will ensure kids get exercise walking and playing with the pet! Of course, you have to ensure that the dog you choose has reduced predatory tendencies to avoid the children getting nipped or attacked as they have a tendency to tug at their tails or tweak their ears, so obedience training is a must for the dogs to be housebroken and remain child-friendly.
• A good choice for a child-friendly environment is the Golden Retriever, which is a breed that is adaptable, has oodles of energy needed with children and also has a calm temperament to play and protect your kids. There are lots more breeds that are fairly adaptable with children; however, you may have to consult with a professional dog breeder or vet to determine your specific needs and that of your child for the ideal canine pet.
• It is recommended that parents looking out for a suitable dog breed for keeping along side children in their homes do their homework on the various kinds that are compatible with kids, how much their care and training will cost them in terms of money, energy and time besides also planning out additional safety features around the house for both child and dog to stay safe.
So, while temperament and youthfulness may be the two most important traits in looking for a dog for your child, it is equally important to hone your knowledge of the right furry friend for your child so as to make an informed decision on choosing a child-friendly, non-aggressive yet protective canine companion for kids.
What to Do if Your Kids Want You to Buy Pet Snakes for Christmas
It is not difficult to care for snakes but then as we all would vouch, snakes are different. They are regal, dynamic, majestic, but dangerous. While caring for the snake pet, it becomes largely important to understand the various dimensions of keeping the pets handy. For instance, Snakes are cold-blooded. Now this means, they have to be bestowed with more care so that they can survive. Furthermore, Snakes have this habit of sliding side ways. Once they start doing this, they become quite dangerous for everyone around. Such snakes must be more carefully dealt with. Snakes that are commonly kept as pet are corn snake and the ball python. There are two kinds of snakes in terms of activity. Some snakes are pretty restless and hence they require larger cages. The enclosures should be chosen in a way so that they can move more comfortably in the given space. Next, there is the inactive specie like the Boa Constrictor that does not require any extra space. They simply need a small space to lie down and hibernate (literally). Snakes cannot be judged generically. Even for the same species, the regimen of captive care might differ for different individual. A reticulated python may differ from another and two Black Racers might not show the same characteristics. Snake care books are great way to learn all that you need to know about snakes and pet snake care. So in order to have a healthy pet snake, with its fangs in control and is less vulnerable to sickness, here is your chance to grab the quintessential information. Such books are packed with abundant know-how released from the most experienced people in this field. Each home is different and thus it is suited to a particular snake. You need to consider the level of your kids ability to take responsibility for caring for a snake as a pet, and what the feeding requirements are. Some snakes eat eggs rather than dead rodents. And if you get one that eats mice, you will need to be aware of the expense and storage requirements for the frozen mice or pinkies. It is also important to grasp the anatomical understanding of the snake pet. Finding a good snake boos will cover these issues and also guide you on how to keep the snake, other pets and your children living in harmony. For example, there is a specific temperature range at which snakes thrive. While selecting an enclosure, it is important to work around keeping the temperature at those levels. The ideal temperature is 30 degree Celsius and at this temperature, a snake’s digestive system works the best. Maybe you are even considering breeding snakes to sell for pets. This could be a profitable hobby for your older children, and a way for them to pay for the costs of upkeep of their snakes. So, while a snake can make a great pet for your kids, before you buy a snake for your children, it is essential that you do your homework to find out the best snakes that are safe for kids to handle, and don’t need too much care. Finding a low maintenance pet snake is the key to a happy family, unless you are prepared to do all the hard work in caring for your pet snake. Snakes care, no matter what you choose as your pet, has indeed never been easy. For pet snakes, your responsibility doesn’t end when you have chosen the species. You should be familiar with appropriate care and feeding, the behavioral characteristic, and the commitment to keep snakes. It is actually just the beginning of a long-term complex relationship.
