I don’t know where the other answerers live but you’ve been ripped off ! Pets at Home are complete extortionists for a start – they charge £22.50 for one degu, and I paid £5 each for mine !
Chinchillas I’ve seen normally cost between £50 and £80, never pay more than that though. Also be aware they’re not really cuddle pets, if you’re looking for something you can hold you’d be better off with a much cheaper and cuddlier rabbit !
Pet shops will charge anything from £80 to £120 each. Why not try a local rescue centre who will ask for a donation. The RSPCA often have many unwanted chinnies looking for good homes, and a search on the Internet will reveal centre up and down the country who are desperate to find a loving ‘forever’ home. They will also offer advice on looking after these little rodents, as they are more complex than what you think.
I work in Pets a Home and some stores vary but they are around £80 but there are often deals on in stores.
They are great pets, playful yet timid.
Hope this helps
