Please Help Me Understand Why People Insist On Papers For There Pet Dog?

If people are buying a dog to be there pet and are getting them spayed or neutered then why do they care about them being papered? I mean papers don’t mean you are getting a good dog I would think that you would look more at the health of the sire and dam and the puppies. If you are not going to show them or breed them then why do papers matter??????

With the registration papers, you can get a pedigree this will help research what dogs are behind your dog and the health of the dogs lineage.

You are correct, papers guarantee nothing.
    BUT
A breeder needs to have those papers in order to show their dogs. I will not buy a dog from a breeder who does not show in one form or another to prove their dogs and prove to me they know what they are doing, they give a crap, and they are breeding for a justified purpose. Not to mention they are PROOF of lineage. I am interested in more than just the dam and sire, I want to see the lineage.
Therefor, it’s pretty important in my book.
Also, if I decide to show my dog in obedience trials, I DO need those papers.

They may not be going to show the dog but they may be going to do obedience and agility trialling with the dog, gaining various titles along the way.
I guess the registration papers are some form of a guarantee that the dog is actually purebred and you should be able to do some research on the lines to see if they meet your needs – conformation, temperament, health, etc. Of course, you would do the research before you got the dog.
