I have 2 dogs, a 4 yr old male mutt who is very fearful, and a very friendly sweet 7 yr old female mutt. We moved here less than a yr ago, he doesn’t know the neighbors, and he barks at them and at their friends. The neighbor’s friend evidently reached thru the fence to pet our dogs and got bitten by the fearful male. Do we have any blame in this? Should we put up “Beware of Dog” signs? Anything else we should do? Husband says he does not want to spend money on a behaviorist. New renters will be moving in on the other side, and the neighbors whose friend was bitten say they will frequently have small children visiting. Tucker has never before bit, other than he nipped at a repairman’s pant leg once after he came in the house, went out the back, and came back in. I figured he was just being protective, but was somewhat shocked, since Tucker usually just goes and hides.
