The most social small pet that I know is ratties, but they must be in a same sex group of 2 or more or they have problems, but if you don’t keep them clean enough they will smell, all pets smell even fish tanks get smelly, I have even seen smelly insects, vivariums ect. its not the pet its the owners bad housekeeping, to be honest I only have rats now because I cannot find anything more social and that likes humans as much as ratties. Cheap to buy but money is needed for nice cage and nice things to put in it, plus sometimes they need the vet, but I don’t find my vet expensive for my ratties, mind have a bowl of hard food available at all times, and I give them our healthy human foods as the bulk of their diet, I also let them freerange around my house, they never run off & after a mooch around always return to their cage if I can’t find one I shout his name and they always always respond and come to me,
